Set Up Hardware for Customer Facing Display

Pick and prepare a tablet for Flowhub Customer Facing Display: supported iPads and Android tablets, screen requirements, mounting, and locking the app.

Written by Valerie

Flowhub Customer Facing Display makes it quick and easy to give every register a second screen, and the tablet you choose decides how well it performs. In this article, we'll guide you through picking, mounting, and locking down a device so your display stays put and stays fast.

💡 One tablet per register. Customer Facing Display mirrors the cart of the one Flowhub user signed in to it. A store with four registers that all want a display needs four tablets.

Choose a Tablet

iPad

  • iPad Air 2 or newer.

  • iPadOS 15.1 or later.

⚠️ On iPadOS 26 or later, navigate to Settings > Multitasking & Gestures > Full Screen Apps. In Windowed Apps or Stage Manager mode, the window controls block the gesture that opens the display's Settings screen.

Android tablet

Flowhub recommends the Samsung Galaxy Tab A11+. Any tablet meeting the specification below also works.

Requirement

Minimum

Operating system

Android 13 or newer, still receiving security updates

Processor

Snapdragon 695 or MediaTek Helio G99 class, or faster

Memory

8 GB recommended. 4 GB minimum, not recommended for multi-register locations

Screen

10 inches or larger, 1920 × 1200 or higher

Other

64-bit device, Google Play certified

Not supported

  • Windows PCs. Customer Facing Display does not run on Windows at this time.

  • Phones. The display is designed for tablet screens.

Position the Display

  • Face the customer. Mount or stand the tablet so the person paying can read it without leaning in.

  • Keep it within reach if you run a loyalty program. Customers can join loyalty from the display by entering a phone number.

  • Keep it on power. A display running all day needs a charging cable or a powered mount.

  • Keep it on Wi-Fi. The display refreshes frequently and needs a steady connection.

  • Think about glare. A screen angled toward a window is a screen nobody reads.

Lock the Tablet to the App

Locking the tablet to Kiosk + CFD stops customers and staff from leaving the app or reaching the rest of the device.

On iPad (Guided Access)

  1. Navigate to Settings > Accessibility > Guided Access.

  2. Turn it On, then set a passcode.

  3. Open the Kiosk + CFD app and start Customer Facing Display.

  4. Triple-select the Home or Side button to start Guided Access.

  5. Select Start.

On Android (Screen Pinning / App Pinning)

  1. Navigate to Settings > Security or Security & Privacy.

  2. Find Screen Pinning or App Pinning and turn it On.

  3. Open the Kiosk + CFD app and start Customer Facing Display.

  4. Select the Overview/Recents button.

  5. Pin the app using the pin icon.

  6. Confirm to lock it.

💡 Tip: Locking the tablet to the app does not protect the display's own Settings screen. For that, turn on Require PIN to open Settings.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I reuse a tablet that already runs Kiosk?

  • The app is the same, but the mode is not. One tablet runs either Kiosk or Customer Facing Display, not both at once. If a tablet is your customer-ordering kiosk, it cannot also be a register display.

Does Flowhub sell the tablets?

  • Flowhub doesn't sell tablets. The devices above are the ones Flowhub recommends.

Can I use a cheaper Android tablet than the one recommended?

  • Any tablet meeting the specification above works. Below it, the display falls behind the register, which defeats the point. The 4 GB memory minimum is specifically not recommended for stores running several registers.

Does the display need its own Wi-Fi network?

  • No, the same store network is fine. It does need a steady connection, because it refreshes throughout every transaction.

Can I mount the display on an arm or a stand?

  • Yes. Any tablet mount works. Leave the charging port accessible, and if you run a loyalty program, leave the screen within the customer's reach.

What if my tablet's operating system is below the minimum?

  • The app may refuse to install below its own store minimum, and a tablet that installs but sits below the specification above falls behind the register. Update the tablet first, or move to a device that meets the specification.

Success! 🎊 Your tablet is chosen, placed, and locked to the app. Your register now has a second screen your customers can actually read.
