Create Popular Deals

Build the most common dispensary promotions in Flowhub: first-time customer discounts, daily category deals, group discounts, BOGOs, giveaways, and bundles.

Written by Valerie

Flowhub Deals makes it quick and easy to run the promotions dispensaries rely on most. In this article, we'll guide you through building seven popular deals end to end, so your team can launch any of them with confidence.

Every recipe here starts the same way. If a step mentions a section you haven't met yet, Deals Overview explains the Deals page and the settings all four deal types share.

Review What This Article Covers

Each recipe below is self-contained. Start with the one closest to the promotion you have in mind.

  1. First-Time Customer Discount — a percentage off a new customer's first order. Uses Cart subtotal.

  2. Daily Category Discount — a category on sale one day a week, such as Munchie Mondays. Uses Product discount.

  3. Customer Group Discount — a standing discount for veterans, locals, or staff. Uses Cart subtotal.

  4. BOGO — buy several, get one at a discount or for a penny. Uses Buy & get.

  5. Buy X for One Price — five of something for a set total. Uses Product discount.

  6. Limited-Quantity Giveaway — a free item for the first 50 customers. Uses Product discount.

  7. Bundle — a grab-and-go set at one price. Uses Bundle.

Before You Start

  1. Navigate to Deals in the module menu at the top left of the window.

    • Your employee role needs Can View, Can Edit, Can Create, and Can Delete permissions on Deals.

  2. Select New deal in the top right of the Deals page.

  3. Enter a Deal Name your budtenders will recognize on the register.

  4. Select a Customer Type: Med or Rec, Med, or Rec.

  5. Select your Deal type, then follow the recipe below that matches it.

💡 Tip: Changing the deal type clears anything you have already entered further down the form. Select your type before you fill in the rest.

Create a First-Time Customer Discount

Any customer shopping with you for the first time receives a set discount on their order. This example gives first-time customers 20% off their cart.

  1. Select Cart subtotal as the deal type.

  2. Under Discount Settings, select % off and enter 20.

  3. In Additional Settings, select the Require prior purchases checkbox.

  4. Select First purchase from the first dropdown.

    • This targets customers with no previous purchases at your store.

  5. Choose how the purchase count is measured from the second dropdown:

    • Count is across all stores — a customer receives the deal once, no matter which of your locations they visit first.

    • Count is unique per store — a customer receives the deal again the first time they visit each location.

  6. Select Save as Active.

💡 Tip: Build Second purchase and Third purchase versions of this deal to give newer customers a reason to come back soon.

💡 Tip: Build Second purchase and Third purchase versions of this deal to give newer customers a reason to come back soon.

First-Time Customer Discount — In the Cart

The deal applies automatically as items are added to the cart. The next time this customer visits, their purchase count is above zero, so the deal no longer applies.

Create a Daily Category Discount

Some dispensaries put a whole category on sale one day a week to move traffic to slower days. This example creates a Munchie Mondays deal giving $5 off a single edible.

  1. Select Product discount as the deal type.

  2. Beside PRODUCTS at, select $ discount and enter 5.

  3. Select Deal applies to every and enter 1.

    • The deal is then eligible as soon as one edible is in the cart.

  4. In the product matcher, select + Category and choose your Edibles category.

    • Narrow it further with + Brand or + Type if the sale covers only part of the category.

    • Select Exclude beside any row that should stay at full price.

    • Select + Combo to match items meeting several conditions at once, such as one brand and one type.

  5. Check the running match count above the filter row, such as 18 of 92 prepacked items match, then review the Matching tab.

  6. In Additional Settings, enter 1 under Uses per transaction.

    • This limits the deal to one edible per cart rather than every edible.

  7. Select the Timeframe heading, then select Monday under Days of Week Available.

  8. Select Save as Active.

💡 Tip: Your filters keep working as your catalog grows. Any edible you add later is picked up by this deal automatically, with no edit needed.

💡 Tip: To discount every edible in the cart instead of one, leave Uses per transaction blank. A 20% off all Edibles on Wednesdays deal is the same recipe with % off set to 20, Wednesday selected, and no per-transaction cap.

Daily Category Discount — In the Cart

A customer buys two flavors of gummies and a pre-roll on a Monday. Only one edible receives the $5 discount, because Uses per transaction is set to 1.

Create a Customer Group Discount

Many dispensaries thank a specific group of customers with a standing discount, such as a veterans or staff discount. This example gives the Veterans group 10% off once they spend $25.

  1. Create the customer group first. Navigate to Customers in the module menu, then select the Groups tab.

  2. Select New Group, name it Veterans, then save it. The description is optional.

  3. Navigate to Deals, select New deal, and select Cart subtotal as the deal type.

  4. Under Discount Settings, select % off and enter 10.

  5. Select the Deal Limitations heading, then select Veterans under Customer group.

    • Only customers in that group receive the deal.

    • Use Exclude groups if a group should never receive it.

  6. In Additional Settings, select the Require Minimum Cart Subtotal checkbox and enter 25.

  7. Choose when the threshold is measured:

    • Pre-Discount — the cart must reach $25 before any other discounts apply.

    • Post-Discount — the cart must still reach $25 after other discounts apply.

  8. Select Save as Active.

💡 Tip: Post-Discount is the safer choice when this deal runs alongside others. It stops a cart already discounted below $25 from also earning the group discount.

Customer Group Discount — In the Cart

The customer belongs to the Veterans group. Once their cart reaches $25, the 10% discount applies.

Create a BOGO Deal

A buy-and-get deal rewards a customer for buying several of something. This example gives a fifth 1g pre-roll for a penny when a customer buys four.

  1. Select Buy & get as the deal type.

  2. In the BUY panel, enter 4 in the items field.

    • This is the quantity the customer must purchase to qualify.

  3. Narrow the qualifying products in the BUY panel.

    • For this example, filter to your Flower category with a weight of 1g. Category and weight options are under + More when the panel is narrow.

    • Review the match count and the Matching tab, then select Exclude on any row that should not count.

  4. In the GET panel, enter 1 under Qty.

  5. Select for $0.01 from the dropdown beside at.

  6. Select Expand filters in the GET panel and apply the same Flower and 1g filters you used on the BUY side.

    • Matching both sides is what makes the earned item the same kind of product the customer bought.

  7. In Additional Settings, choose an option under When choosing which discount to apply:

    • Choose smallest available discount — the penny price lands on the lowest-priced qualifying pre-roll. This is standard BOGO behavior.

    • Choose largest available discount — it lands on the highest-priced one instead.

  8. Enter 1 under Uses per transaction to cap the deal at one free pre-roll per order.

  9. Select Save as Active.

💡 Tip: Penny pricing keeps the earned item on the receipt at a non-zero price. Select for free instead if a zero-dollar line item suits your state.

💡 Tip: For a classic buy one, get one half off, enter 1 on the BUY side and 1 on the GET side. Then select % discount and enter 50.

BOGO Deal — In the Cart

The customer adds five 1g pre-rolls. One of them drops to a penny, chosen by your When choosing which discount to apply setting.

Create a Buy X for One Price Deal

This deal rewards customers for buying multiples of the same product. This example sells five of your in-house 100mg gummies for $100, where they normally cost $25 each.

  1. Select Product discount as the deal type.

  2. Beside PRODUCTS at, select set price and enter 20.

    • Five gummies repriced to $20 each comes to $100, down from $125.

  3. Select Deal applies to every and enter 5.

    • The deal triggers on every group of five, so ten gummies are all repriced.

  4. In the product matcher, filter to the products in the offer.

    • Selecting + Items and naming the product returns all of its flavors, because flavors are variants of one product.

    • Filtering by + Category, + Brand, and + Type reaches the same set.

  5. Confirm the match count and review the Matching tab.

  6. Select Save as Active.

Buy X for One Price — In the Cart

The customer picks two Watermelon, two Pineapple, and one Strawberry. All five reprice to $20 each, for $100 total.

Create a Limited-Quantity Giveaway

Sometimes a promotion needs a hard cap, such as a free item for the first 50 customers. This example gives a free t-shirt to the first 50 customers who spend $100 on 4/20.

  1. Select Product discount as the deal type.

  2. Beside PRODUCTS at, select for free.

  3. In the product matcher, filter to the giveaway item, such as your Apparel category or the shirt itself.

    • The customer's cart must contain this item for the deal to apply.

  4. Select Deal applies to every and enter 1.

  5. Select the Timeframe heading, then set both the Start Date and, using Set end date, the same date.

    • Setting both to 4/20 confines the deal to that single day.

  6. In Additional Settings, enter 50 under Total uses.

  7. Select the Require Minimum Cart Subtotal checkbox and enter 100.

  8. Select Save as Active.

💡 Tip: Watch the deal during the day. Once Total uses reach 50, the deal stops applying, and it stays in your list showing its status.

Limited-Quantity Giveaway — In the Cart

The customer reaches $100, and the budtender adds a t-shirt. The shirt discounts to free. After 50 redemptions, the discount no longer applies.

Create a Bundle Deal

Bundles let you sell a set of items as one scannable product, which suits holiday and 4/20 grab-and-go bags. This example sells an eighth, a rolling tray, papers, a grinder, and a lighter for $30.

  1. Select Bundle as the deal type.

  2. Under Bundle Settings, enter a Bundle SKU, or select GENERATE SKU to have Flowhub create one.

  3. Select the Bundled products not eligible for other deals checkbox so the items inside keep their bundle price.

  4. Select the Print SKU when saving deal checkbox and enter the number of Labels you need for the bags.

  5. Under Customer Buys, select your Store. A message will display reading "Changing the store will reset the inventory list and included items."

    • Choose the store before you select items, so you don't lose your work.

  6. Narrow the inventory list using Room, Package ID, Product Name, or Category.

  7. On the SEARCH RESULTS tab, move your pointer over a row to display its INCLUDE option, then select it.

    • Each row displays the product and variant, the package ID and SKU, the room, and the quantity on hand.

  8. Select the INCLUDED tab to review the bundle and remove anything added by mistake.

  9. Under Customer Gets, select At a new price and enter 30.

  10. Select Save as Active, then collect your printed labels.

💡 Tip: Bundles are specific to one store, room, and package. Every item has to sit in the same store and room to go in the cart together.

💡 Tip: A smaller starter bundle works the same way. Include one eighth, one pre-roll, and one pack of gummies at a new price of $25.

Bundle Deal — In the Cart

The budtender scans the bundle SKU, or adds all five items. Flowhub prices the set at $30.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can one deal contain more than one offer?

  • Each deal uses a single deal type, but Product discount and Buy & get can hold several offers inside one deal. Select + Add part (OR) on a product discount, or + Add group (OR) on a buy and get. For offers of different types, create separate deals.

Can a customer receive more than one deal in the same cart?

  • Yes. Every deal whose conditions are met applies. Use Uses per transaction to cap how often one deal repeats. Select the Make this deal "Exclusive" checkbox to make a deal the only one a customer receives. Make sure your store settings are not set to No Stacking.

What happens when a deal runs out of Total uses?

  • The deal stops applying at checkout. It stays in your Deals list, and it starts applying again once you raise the Total uses number or clear the field.

How do I limit a deal to one day only?

  • Expand Timeframe, then set the Start Date and the Set end date to the same date. Use Days of Week Available instead for a deal that repeats weekly.

My filters cover the right categories, but the wrong products are included. What should I do?

  • Review the Matching tab and select Exclude on each row that should stay at full price. Excluded rows move to the Excluded tab, where you can put them back.

What permissions does an employee need to create or edit deals?

  • The employee's role needs Can View, Can Edit, Can Create, and Can Delete permissions on Deals. Configure these under Employee Role settings.

Great work! 🥳 You can now build the promotions dispensaries lean on most. With the right mix of deal types, limitations, and filters, your store can run offers that drive sales and bring customers back.
