Inline discounts enable budtenders or managers to apply a one-time discount directly to a cart or a specific product line without using a pre-configured deal. This provides flexibility for special customer situations while maintaining accurate pricing and ensuring data integrity compliance.
Permissions Required
For a user to apply an inline discount, they must have permission to do so. Check permissions for a Role by:
Navigating to Employees
Select Roles across the purple bar at the top
Select the Role you would like to check, then select Edit
Scroll down to the carts section and check if Apply Discounts is checked. If this box is checked, the user associated with this role can apply inline discounts.
Note: All users with access to make a sale will see the option to set up an inline discount. However, only users with the granted permission will be able to use their 4-digit PIN to approve the discount.
Apply an Inline Discount
Navigate to Cashier in Flowhub Maui.
Check in a customer and add items to the cart.
In the cart on the right, there are two ways to add inline discounts
On the Collect Payment screen, there is a breakdown of all the discounts.
In this example, the first customer ever! The discount is appearing multiple times on the sale breakdown. This displays each product's discount, followed by the total discount for the cart. The Banana Kush Concentrate is discounted by $10.80, and the High Tide Hoodie is discounted by $6.00, resulting in a full cart discount of $16.80.
The long line discount only applies to the product we selected in the previous step and not the entire cart.
Check the customer out like normal.
The receipt will then provide the discount breakdowns and reasons why the discount was applied.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who can apply inline discounts?
Only users whose role has the Apply Discounts permission enabled can approve and apply inline discounts.
Can I apply inline discounts to any item?
Yes, provided store policy and product minimum pricing don’t restrict it; inline discounts are independent of established Deals.
Will inline discounts appear in reports?
Yes. Any discount applied at the cart or item level will be logged and visible in sales reports.
Do inline discounts stack with existing deals?
Inline discounts are separate from the Deals engine and pre-configured promotions; your store’s stacking logic will not determine how deals stack. Inline discounts will override this setting.
