Pack Bulk Inventory in Maui

Learn how to pack bulk flower into prepacked units like eighths, quarters, and pre-rolls in Flowhub Maui.

Written by Valerie

Flowhub makes it quick and easy to break down bulk flower into shelf-ready prepacked units like grams, eighths, quarters, and pre-rolls. In this article, we'll guide you through packing bulk inventory so your team can create finished products faster and with fewer repetitive steps.

You can now pack bulk inventory into multiple products in a single form, set batch-specific pricing when packing out, assign new Metrc package tags, and print barcode or exit labels immediately after packing. The workflow varies depending on whether you pack into variants of the original product or into separate products across your catalog.

πŸ’‘ Tip: The Pack Bulk button only appears in the detail panel for products that have Sell by Weight checked in the product catalog. If you do not see the button when you select an inventory item, navigate to Products, select Edit on the product, and confirm that Sell by Weight is enabled. For more details, see Bulk vs Prepacked Products.

Before You Begin

Keep these details in mind when packing down bulk inventory:

  • Package ID: When you pack down bulk, the resulting inventory inherits the Package ID of the source package. If you have separated this package in Metrc with a new tag, you will need to update the inventory in Flowhub with the correct Package ID.

  • Metrc product name: When you pack into a different product using the "Any Product" setting, the child package retains the parent package's original product name in Metrc. The new product name only appears in Flowhub.

  • Metrc quantity: Flower that is in both bulk grams and prepacked units on the same Metrc package tag will have combined weights when comparing quantity in the Metrc tab.

  • State restrictions: Stores in Biotrack states (Florida and New Mexico) do not support the Pack Bulk Inventory into Any Product setting. See the Enable the Setting section below for details.

Pack Bulk Using Variants

If your product catalog uses variants (for example, a "Bubba Kush" product with "Bulk," "Eighth," and "Pre-Roll 1g" variants), follow these steps to pack bulk inventory into prepacked variants of the same product.

Confirm Your Variants Exist

  1. Navigate to Inventory, then select Products from the purple bar at the top.

  2. Locate the product and review the variants on the right side of the window.

    • Confirm that the prepacked variant you want to pack into already exists (for example, "0.5g Pre-Roll" or "14g").

    • If the variant you need does not exist, you'll have the option to select the Create a New Variant button to configure the new variant before you pack down.

Pack Down the Bulk Inventory

  1. Navigate to Inventory and search or filter for the bulk item you want to pack down.

  2. Select the inventory item. A detail panel opens on the right side of the window. Select Pack Bulk.

  3. From the From Room dropdown, select the room that holds the bulk inventory you are packing from.

  4. Under Variant, select the variant you want to pack into. The product name displays as a chip (for example, "BUBBA KUSH") and only variants of that parent product appear in the dropdown.

    • If the variant you need does not exist, select No matches, create a new variant to add one inline.

  5. Enter the number of units in the Qty field.

    • Next to the variant, Flowhub displays how many units you can create and how many grams remain (for example, "2816 units available (9859g remaining)").

  6. (Optional) To assign a new Metrc package tag, enter or select a tag in the New Regulatory ID field. Flowhub displays your available tags from Metrc.

    • This step is optional unless your state requires the entirety of a Metrc package to be in one room (for example, Maryland or Oregon).

    • When you save, Flowhub automatically creates the new package in Metrc and decrements the source package.

  7. (Optional) To set batch-specific pricing for this batch, update the Price (or Price Profile) and Cost fields. These values apply only to this packed batch and do not change the product's default pricing.

    • If the product you are packing into is set up to sell by weight, a Price Profile dropdown appears (for example, "Middle Shelf"). If the product is prepacked, a Price text field appears instead.

  8. To pack into additional variants, select + Add Another Product and repeat steps 6 through 9 for each variant.

    • The counters at the top of the form track your Original Bulk Amount, Amount Packed, and Products Packed as you add products.

    • If you try to pack more than your available quantity, the field turns red and saving is blocked.

  9. (Optional) To assign the packed inventory to a different room, update the Room field for each section.

  10. When you are finished, select Save or Save & Print.

Print Labels After Packing

If you selected Save & Print, Flowhub packs all units and then displays your label printing options. Both barcode and exit label printing are supported.

  1. By default, the number of labels matches the number of units you created for each product. For example, if you created 50 units of a 1.5g pre-roll, 50 labels are queued.

  2. To adjust the number of labels:

    • Edit the label count for individual products as needed.

    • To print the same number of labels for every product (for example, one label per bin rather than one per unit), select print same quantity for all packages and enter the desired number.

  3. Review the total label count displayed at the bottom of the form, then select Print.

  4. Select Done to close the form.

Great work! πŸ₯³ Your bulk inventory has been packed into prepacked variants, and your labels are ready.

Pack Bulk Into Other Products

If your product catalog uses separate, standalone products rather than variants (or you need to pack bulk flower into an entirely different product type, like pre-rolls under a separate product), enable the Pack Bulk Inventory into Any Product setting first.

Think of it this way: the variant workflow is like sorting mail into labeled slots within the same mailbox, while the "any product" workflow is like delivering packages to different addresses across town. You are not limited to the same parent product.

Enable the Setting

  1. Navigate to Store Settings from the Account section of the main menu.

  2. Select Multi-Store from the left navigation.

  3. Scroll to the Pack Bulk Inventory into Any Product is enabled at the following stores section. Select the checkbox next to each store location where you want to enable this feature.

    1. To enable it for all locations at once, select Set All. To disable it for all locations, select Reset.

  4. Select Save All Settings in the upper-right corner.

πŸ’‘ Tip: This setting is not available for stores in Biotrack states (Florida and New Mexico). Those locations will not have a checkbox.

  4. Select the product you want to pack into. With this setting enabled, your entire product catalog is available in the product picker, not only variants of the original product.

    • For example, you can pack bulk Garlic Cookies flower into a "1.5g Pre-Roll" product that lives under a completely different parent product.

    • If you select an unregulated product, a warning will display. You can still proceed, but review the selection to confirm it is correct.

  5. Enter the number of units in the Qty field.

    • Flowhub displays how many units you can create and how many grams remain next to the product name.

  6. (Optional) To assign a new Metrc package tag, enter or select a tag in the New Regulatory ID field.

  7. (Optional) To set batch-specific pricing, update the Price and Cost fields.

  8. To pack into additional products, select + Add Another Product and repeat steps 8 through 11.

    • You can mix and match: pack some units into a variant of the original product and others into entirely different products, all within the same form.

    • The counters at the top of the form track your Original Bulk Amount, Amount Packed, and Products Packed as you add items. The remaining available quantity updates with each addition.

  9. (Optional) Update the Room assignment for any product if you want the packed inventory placed somewhere other than the source room.

  10. When you are finished, select Save or Save & Print.

    • If you select Save & Print, follow the label printing steps described in the Print Labels After Packing section above.

Great work! πŸ₯³ Your bulk inventory has been packed into multiple products across your catalog.

Frequently Asked Questions

What products can I pack down using Pack Bulk?

  • Only products with Sell by Weight checked in the product catalog can be packed down. The Pack Bulk button will not appear in the detail panel for prepacked products. If you need to enable this, navigate to Products, select Edit on the product, check Sell by Weight, and select Save.

What happens to the Package ID when I pack down bulk inventory?

  • The packed inventory inherits the Package ID of the source package. If you assign a new Metrc package tag during packing, the new inventory is associated with that new tag and Flowhub pushes the change to Metrc automatically.

Can I pack into a product from a different category (for example, Flower into Pre-Rolls)?

  • Yes, if you have the Pack Bulk Inventory into Any Product setting enabled. With this setting on, you can select any product from your catalog regardless of category. If your state requires pre-rolls to be categorized separately, you can either pack directly into a product in the Pre-Rolls category or change the category after packing. See Add Products & Variations for details.

What if I need a variant that does not exist yet?

  • When packing into variants (with the "Any Product" setting disabled), select No matches, create a new variant in the variant picker to add a new variant inline without leaving the Pack Bulk form.

Can I undo a pack bulk action?

  • Packing down bulk inventory cannot be reversed directly. If you need to correct a mistake, you will need to manually adjust inventory quantities or contact support.

Will the new product name appear in Metrc after I pack into a different product?

  • No. In Metrc, the child package retains the parent package's original product name. The new product name is only reflected in Flowhub. This is expected behavior and does not affect compliance.

Why is the Pack Bulk Inventory into Any Product setting unavailable for one of my stores?

  • This setting is managed per store location in Store Settings > Multi-Store. Stores in Biotrack states (Florida and New Mexico) do not support this feature and will not have a checkbox.
