Get a Valid Metrc API Key

API keys must first be generated within your Metrc portal. Use the following steps to create the Metrc API key:

  1. Log in to your Metrc account by going to

  2. Select "Login" in the upper right corner, select your state, and log in.

  3. Once signed in, select the down arrow next to your username or Badge ID in the upper right corner of the page.

  4. Click "API Keys" from the drop-down.

  5. Select the "Generate API Key" button. Once the key is generated, copy it with your cursor.

    • You may notice that there is a red circle with a line when trying to copy your API Ket in METRC; you can still highlight the API key and copy it.

Note: Always generate a new API key when assigning the key to a Flowhub profile. Any changes to your Metrc account will render a previously entered/generated API key outdated. For any Metrc related errors or questions, please visit

Assign an API Key to Flowhub

  1. Log into Flowhub Maui at

    • The Browser is recommended to use when adding API keys, as it makes it easier to copy/paste the key directly from Metrc.

  2. Select your initials in the upper right corner of the window.

  3. Select "Account Settings".

  4. Navigate to the "Regulator Credentials" section.

  5. Select your corresponding state and enter your API Key.

    • You can enter an API key for each state you operate in.

  6. Select "Save."

  7. You can also select "Employees" from the pop-out menu, find your name, and select "Edit".

  8. You can only change the API key of the person who is signed in.

    • If the API key field is inactive/grayed out, this means that you are attempting to add an API key for a user other than yourself. Employees must log in themselves to add their API key to their Account.

Please Note: If you encounter an error assigning your Metrc API Key to your account, you may want to check with a supervisor to verify your permissions in Metrc. If you are still having an issue, please reach out to Flowhub's Product Support team.

If you encounter the error, "There was a problem contacting METRC's API, you may have a bad API key," you'll need to regenerate an API through your Metrc portal and assign that new key to the appropriate employee in Maui.
