Split or Sublot Inventory Packages in Maui

Split or sublot a package into multiple child packages at once in Flowhub Maui. Quantities and tags are distributed and pushed to Metrc or BioTrack automatically.

Written by Valerie

This article describes how to split (Metrc) or sublot (BioTrack) a package in Flowhub Maui into one or multiple child packages in a single action, with changes automatically pushed to your regulator.

The split/sublot workflow lets you create all of your child packages in one form instead of repeating the split process for each new tag. You can choose how many child packages to create, let Flowhub distribute quantities evenly, and fine-tune any amounts before saving.

For Metrc users, you can scan or select from your Available Tags directly in the form. For BioTrack users, new Barcode IDs are generated automatically on save.

πŸ’‘ Tip: This workflow is only available for dispensaries operating in Metrc or BioTrack states. If your state or dispensary does not use a regulator, you can split a package by using the Move Rooms feature and assigning a unique SKU to each batch.

Before you start

Before splitting a package, confirm the following:

  1. Verify that the user performing the split has a valid regulator API key on their user profile.

    • Metrc: Requires a valid Metrc API key with "Manage Packages" permissions. See Add Metrc API Keys and Required Permissions for Metrc Integration.

    • BioTrack: Requires the user to be connected to BioTrack. See Create/Connect BioTrack Users in Maui.

  2. (Metrc only) Confirm you have enough Available Tags in Metrc to cover the number of child packages you plan to create.

    • Available Tags can be viewed in Metrc under Admin > Tags > Available.

πŸ’‘ Tip: If there is no API key on the user, the package will still split in Flowhub, but the split will not be pushed to the regulator. A message will display: "Package could not be split in Regulator."

Use Bulk Split for a package (Metrc)

  1. In Flowhub Maui, navigate to Inventory and select the package you want to split.

  2. On the right side of the window, select Split Package.

  3. If your package is in multiple rooms, select the Room containing the batch you want to split.

  4. At the top of the split form, confirm the Original Package Qty displayed on the left. In the Number of new Pkgs. field, enter how many child packages to create (defaults to 2). Then enter the total amount in the Qty. to split off field.

    • Flowhub will automatically divide the split quantity evenly across the child package rows under New package(s):.

    • If the split results in an uneven quantity, the remainder will be added to the first child package so the totals reconcile against the parent.

    • The Qty Split Off counter at the top of the form updates as you assign quantities.

  5. For each row under New package(s):, select a Package tag from the dropdown.

    • The dropdown shows your license's unassigned Available Tags from Metrc.

    • You can also scan a physical Metrc tag directly into the field.

    • To add more child packages beyond the default rows, select + ADD ANOTHER PACKAGE at the bottom of the form.

  6. (Optional) Adjust the Qty field on any child package row to fine-tune how inventory is divided.

    • Flowhub will validate that all child quantities total the Qty. to split off before you can save.

  7. For each child package, select the destination room from the Room dropdown.

  8. (Optional) Enter a new SKU (barcode) for each child package, or leave the field blank to let Flowhub Maui generate one automatically.

πŸ’‘ Tip: If you use Package IDs as your barcodes, you can paste the Package tag value into the SKU field and Flowhub will recognize it as the SKU

  9. (Optional) Set batch-specific Price and Cost on any child package.

    • For flower products, the Price field displays a price profile (such as "Middle Shelf"). For other product types, the field displays a dollar amount.

    • If no overrides are provided, the child package inherits the default product price and cost from the parent package.

  10. Select Save.

The new packages will be created in both Metrc and Flowhub Maui, and the source package will be decremented by the total split quantity.

Great work! πŸ₯³ Your child packages are now live in Metrc and ready to manage in Flowhub.

Use Bulk Split for a package (BioTrack)

  1. In Flowhub Maui, navigate to Inventory and select the package you want to sublot.

  2. On the right side of the window, select Sublot Package.

  3. If your package is in multiple rooms, select the Room containing the batch you want to sublot.

  4. At the top of the form, confirm the Original Package Qty and enter the total amount in the Qty. to split off field. Use Number of new Pkgs. to choose how many new sublots to create (defaults to 1).

    • Flowhub will automatically divide the split quantity evenly across the sublot rows under New package(s):.

    • If the split results in an uneven quantity, the remainder will be added to the first child package.

    • The Qty Split Off counter at the top of the form updates as you assign quantities.

    • To add more sublots beyond the default, select + ADD ANOTHER PACKAGE at the bottom of the form.

  5. (Optional) Adjust the Qty field on any sublot row to set custom amounts.

    • The total of all child quantities must equal the Qty. to split off.

  6. For each sublot, select the destination room from the Room dropdown.

  7. (Optional) Enter a new SKU (barcode) for each sublot, or leave the field blank to let Flowhub Maui generate one automatically.

  8. (Optional) Set batch-specific Price and Cost on any sublot.

    • For flower products, the Price field displays a price profile (such as "Middle Shelf"). For other product types, the field displays a dollar amount.

    • If no overrides are provided, the sublot inherits the default product price and cost from the parent package.

  9. Select Save.

BioTrack will automatically generate and assign a new Regulatory ID (Barcode ID) to each sublot upon save. The new packages will be created in both BioTrack and Flowhub Maui, and the source package will be decremented by the total split quantity.

Great work! πŸ₯³ Your sublotted packages are now synced with BioTrack and ready in Flowhub.

Frequently asked questions

How does Flowhub distribute the quantity across child packages?

  • The Qty. to split off is divided evenly across the number of new packages you specify. If the result is not a whole number, the remainder is added to the first child package so the totals reconcile against the parent.

Can I set different quantities for each child package?

  • Yes. After Flowhub auto-distributes the split, you can manually edit the Qty on any child package row. The sum of all child quantities must equal the Qty. to split off before you can save.

Can I add more child packages than the default?

  • Yes. Select + ADD ANOTHER PACKAGE at the bottom of the form to add additional rows. You can also remove a row by selecting the trash icon next to it. There is no limit to the number of child packages you can create in a single split.

What happens to pricing and cost on the new packages?

  • By default, every child package inherits the parent package's default product price and cost. For flower products, the Price field shows a price profile (such as "Middle Shelf") rather than a dollar amount. If you want a child package to use a different price or cost, set the Price and/or Cost fields on that child package row before saving.

(Metrc) Where do the tags in the Package tag dropdown come from?

  • The Package tag dropdown shows your license's unassigned Available Tags from Metrc (the same tags found under Admin > Tags > Available that have not yet been assigned to a package). You can also scan a physical tag instead of using the dropdown.

(BioTrack) Do I need to enter a new Barcode ID for each sublot?

  • No. BioTrack automatically generates and assigns a new Regulatory ID (Barcode ID) to each sublot when you save the form.

Troubleshoot: "Package could not be split in Regulator"

If a message displays with this error after saving, the package was split in Flowhub but the action did not push to your regulator. Your Flowhub inventory will reflect the split, but the regulator will not.

Check the following:

  1. (Metrc) Does the user performing the split have a valid Metrc API key with permissions to Manage Packages?

  2. (Metrc) Are the New Regulatory IDs you assigned valid Available Tags under Admin > Tags in Metrc?

  3. (BioTrack) Is the user properly connected to BioTrack? See Create/Connect BioTrack Users in Maui.

  4. Is the parent package in a state that allows splitting (not On Hold, not in an active transfer)? See Metrc "On Hold" Packages.

If the package split in Flowhub was successful but did not push to the regulator, you will need to perform the split in Metrc or BioTrack separately so your inventory matches.
