Flowhub Potency Warnings for Medical Purchase Limits makes it quick and easy to align checkout with Colorado MED's updated THC potency guidelines. In this article, we'll guide you through enabling and configuring this feature so your team can surface potency warnings at the point of sale and support compliance with physician-recommended limits.
Note: This feature is currently available for Colorado Medical customers only.
Understand How Potency Warnings Work
In 2026, the Colorado Marijuana Enforcement Division (MED) released updated guidelines around the THC potency percentages that medical patients may purchase, based on limits provided on the patient's physician certification letter.
Flowhub now supports these guidelines by allowing dispensaries to record patient-specific potency limits and surfacing warnings when a product's THC potency exceeds those limits at checkout.
Here's what to expect when the feature is enabled:
New fields appear on medical customer profiles to capture maximum THC potency limits for Flower, Concentrates, and Products.
When an item is added to a cart that exceeds the patient's documented potency limit, a warning modal displays to the budtender.
The warning shows the patient's potency limits alongside the product's potency, giving budtenders clear context to assess the situation.
The warning is informational only β it does not block the sale. Budtenders can remove the item or dismiss the warning and proceed.
Enable the Store Setting
Select your store name in the upper right corner of Flowhub Maui, then select Store Settings.
Navigate to the Regulatory Compliance section.
Enable Potency % Warnings for Medical Purchase Limits.
Select Save.
π‘ Tip: This setting is currently recommended for Colorado Medical dispensaries only. If you do not serve Colorado medical patients, you do not need to enable this setting.
Record Potency Limits on a Customer Profile
Once the store setting is enabled, new fields will appear on medical customer profiles to capture the maximum THC potency percentages from the patient's physician certification letter.
Navigate to Customers from the main menu.
Select the medical customer whose potency limits you want to record.
Select Edit on the customer profile.
Locate the potency limit fields and enter the maximum THC potency percentage for each product type as documented on the patient's certification:
Flower β Maximum THC % for flower products
Concentrates β Maximum THC % for concentrate products
Products β Maximum THC % for other product types
Select Save.
π‘ Tip: We recommend also updating these potency values on the patient's profile in Metrc. Currently, Metrc has fields for Max Flower % and Max Concentrate % only. These values are not available over the Metrc API, so Flowhub references the values on the customer profile in Maui when comparing product potency at checkout. There is no sync option available to push these values to Metrc at this time.
π‘ Tip: Flowhub includes a field for Products in addition to Flower and Concentrates because some physician certification letters include a potency recommendation for other product types, even though Metrc does not currently have a corresponding field.
Review Potency Warnings at Checkout
When a budtender adds an item to a cart that exceeds the patient's documented potency limit, a warning modal will display automatically.
Add an item to the cart for a medical customer who has potency limits recorded on their profile.
If the item's Total THC % exceeds the patient's limit for that product type, a warning modal will display.
Review the warning modal, which shows:
The patient's potency limits as recorded on their profile
The potency of the item in the cart
Choose how to proceed:
Select Remove Items to remove the item from the cart.
Or close the modal to dismiss the warning and continue with the sale.
π‘ Tip: The potency warning is informational only. It does not block the sale. Your dispensary can establish internal policies for how your team should respond when a warning appears.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the potency warning block the sale?
No. The warning is informational. Budtenders can dismiss the modal and proceed with the sale. Your dispensary should establish internal policies for handling potency limit warnings.
Do the potency limits sync with Metrc?
Not at this time. Potency limit values are recorded on the customer profile in Flowhub Maui and are not available over the Metrc API. We recommend manually updating the corresponding fields in Metrc (Max Flower % and Max Concentrate %) to keep both systems aligned.
Why does Flowhub include a "Products" field when Metrc only has Flower and Concentrates?
Some physician certification letters include a potency recommendation for products beyond Flower and Concentrates. Flowhub includes this field to capture that information, even though Metrc does not currently have a matching field.
Is this feature available outside of Colorado?
This feature is currently designed for Colorado Medical dispensaries only. If your state introduces similar potency limit guidelines in the future, contact your Flowhub representative for updates.
Where do I find the potency limit values to enter on the customer profile?
The values come from the patient's physician certification letter, which specifies the maximum THC potency percentage recommended for each product type (Flower, Concentrates, and Products).
What happens if a customer profile doesn't have potency limits recorded?
No warning will appear. Potency warnings only display when a patient has values entered in the potency limit fields on their profile and an item in the cart exceeds one of those values.
Great work! π₯³
